Kahootz 3 Challenge Day.

Five students attended a Kahootz Challenge on Wednesday 9th September at ACMI (Federation Square). Students were challenged to create a short movie using "Green screen" animation about Melbourne the Sporting Capital of the world! The "Green screen" animation used Jarryd Gilchrist, National Water Polo Player and our students to create a short movie to be placed in front of a Kahootz background animation. Our students, along with 6 other statewide schools will enter their movie next term and in return will receive recognition and awards from DEECD, Dataworks and ACMI.

ICT PROGRAM TERM 1 2009 OVERVIEW

In term one we have been focusing on revision and cybersafety. This involved teaching golden rules about being safe on the net. I encourage all families and friends to visit http://www.cyberquoll.com.au/ for further information about our program.
Term 1 GOLDEN RULES
Golden rules for emailing; never give out your email address to someone you dont know, never open an email from someone you dont know, emails can contain viruses, hoaxes, scams etc.
Golden rules for safe internet searching are; use family friendly search engines, check your source and recognise what might lead to inappropriate content.
Golden rules when things get nasty; close the window, close the browser, shut down the computer or ask a parent or supervisor.
PARENTS remember this golden rule; let childen tell you what they may have stumbled accross on the intenet without fear or consequence of banning the computer!

For students in prep and grade 1/2 we will introduce and revise logging on to the school system and practise keyboard and mouse skills. The grade 1/2's will also revisit KidsPix4.

Below are some examples of student's work using Photostory3 from 2009.  (a free download from Microsoft - click here to download) .
They created their stories by combining music, narration, text and motion to their photos of Antarctica. We have been using PhotoStory 3 with the Grade 3/4 and 5/6's in term 1 2009.

ICT PROGRAM TERM 2 2009 OVERVIEW

The most exciting news this term is the new ICT lab which looks wonderful and is an excellent learning space for all of our students. Thank you to After School Care for sharing their room with me last term, your support during term 1 was invaluable.

Other news this term is our Internet Acceptable Use Kit. Every student will receive a kit with information about safe and responsible internet use. Parents/Guardians are being asked to sit with their child/ren and discuss safe internet use and sign the Parent permission form. Students from Grades 3 to 6 are also being asked to sign the rules and responsibilities form. Please return these to your classroom teachers.

Students in Prep are becoming more comfortable and confident ICT users this term. They will be learning to log on and log off the school network and have some fun creating simple animations using Pivot Stick animator. (see links page for free download)

Grade 1/2 students will be learning some features of Microsoft Word 2007 and practising their keyboard recognition skills using a game called 10 FingerBreakOut. (see links page for free download)

Students in grade 3 to 6 will be using SuperClubsPLUS as an ICT communication tool and creating their own web pages using their integrated topic as a focus.  They will have completed their Photo Stories and we will be ‘showing off' our APS Photo Story talent within Education Week.

ICT PROGRAM TERM 3 2009 OVERVIEW

Students have been thoroughly enjoying our new eLearning centre by engaging with the Interactive Whiteboard having access to individual computers.

Students in Prep are becoming more comfortable and confident ICT users this term. They have been practising logging on and off and have created some amazing pivot stick animations. This term we will be focusing on the Kids Pix 4 Deluxe software program. This program enables students to create amazing images and slideshows to demonstrate their learning within any number of curriculum areas. Look out for the software package in the scholastic book orders - often a great Christmas gift idea.

Grade 1/2 students will be creating Photostories using Photo Story 3 software. (see links page for free download link). This program allows students to upload photographs, add music, narration and movement to tell a ‘story'.

Students in grade 3 to 6 will be using SuperClubsPLUS in their classrooms and using Kahootz 3 within their eLearning lessons.   Kahootz 3 is an animation software package that students will use to explore what our technological world will look and feel like in the year 2300.

If you have any queries about your child's ICT education please feel free to contact me. I am available at school Wednesday through to Friday.

ICT PROGRAM TERM 4 2009

It's been a wonderfully exciting year so far and all of the students remain engaged and excited about their ICT learning. Preps will continue to use Kid Pix 4 Deluxe and will use a photograph of themself to mix, create and animate a picture. All Prep students will receive a Kid Pix Paint Shop Certificate to acknowledge their wonderful efforts in learning ALL of the Kid Pix tools.

Grade 1/2 students are completing their Photostories by adding narration and more information to their already wonderfully clever digital stories. They will share their finished stories with their classmates and will be able to save their work to take home to 'show off' their talents to family and friends. A brief introduction to SuperClubsPLUS will occur at the end of the term. Students have been practising their typing skills using the free game, 'Ten Finger Breakout'. Each student was given a 5 minute time to play the game and record their score at the start of the year and we will complete the year with a final 5 minute record of their score to see their great keyboard recognition improvement.

Kahootz 3 has been a 'hit' with all of the students from grade 3 to 6 and this term they will complete their project. Grade 3/4 students have been asked to create a short animation telling their audience what the world will look like in the year 2300. Grade 5/6 students will be creating an interactive quiz with space as their learning focus. All students will use their skills and knowledge of Kahootz 3 to create their final product.

Please remember our CYBERSAFETY golden rules whenever children are on the computer and more information about Cybersafety can be found at www.cybersmart.gov.au.
