Years 3/4 Classroom
3/4 Curriculum Overview
Term 4 2009
Dear Parents / Guardians,
The following includes some information about the learning experiences your child will be involved in for Literacy, Numeracy and Integrated Studies.
Literacy
The types of texts we will be focusing on are: Persuasive (Exposition/Argumentative) texts and Recounts. Children will read and analyse a variety of these texts with an emphasis on questioning and re-telling, based on the scaffold of an exposition text. Children will be encouraged to plan, write and edit their own personal texts.
For grammar and punctuation, we will look at Conjunctions, Connectives, Adverbs, Apostrophes and Possession of Apostrophes.
Children will be encouraged to present the Exposition text through class debates.
A continued focus for term 4 will be to identify the range of strategies children could use to learn to spell words; Sound {hearing}, Visual {looking for patterns} and Meaning {using their knowledge of words to help spell other words}. We will be looking at "Eous/ous", "silent letters", "sion/tion", "ough", "ure', doubling letters and "ck"
.

- Fractions
