JapanJapanese at Altona Primary School

Prep and Year 1 Students

  • Students will use a variety of games, songs and dances to engage with Japanese culture.
  • They will practise basic language such as greetings and counting.
  • They will participate in craft activities related to festivals that take place throughout the year.

Year 2 and 3 Students

  • Students will use a variety of games, stories, songs and dances to engage with Japanese culture.
  • They will practise basic language with emphasis on pronunciation and repetition, with some explanation of relevant grammar.
  • They will participate in craft activities related to festivals that take place throughout the year and symbolism in Japanese culture.

 

Year 4

  • They will be undertaking a book study of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, focusing on symbolism, festivals and language.
  • They will participate in craft activities related to the text.

 

 

5 and 6 Students

  • They will be undertaking investigations of elements of Japanese culture using their netbooks and comparing and contrasting this with their lives in Australia.
  • They will undertake language investigations discovering, focussing on how to ask for a particular landmark or building.
